About

Melanie Johnson

I’m Melanie Johnson, a senior Journalism and Media Studies major at Linfield University. This is my online portfolio, which features work completed for my major–and a couple side gigs.

This site, which was a required project in my Senior Capstone class, features my final Journalism and Media Studies’ project, the Ready, Set to Bloom Campaign , which is an awareness campaign I created for McMinnville Education Foundation.

My career goal is to combine life experience with the journalistic and public relation writing skills and training in web site creation and podcasting I gained at Linfield University to promote the mission of a nonprofit organization that serves the disadvantaged.

My career goal is to promote the mission of a nonprofit organization that serves the disadvantaged.

My web and audio experience include creating the Fostering Engagement website and podcast. The mission of both is to educate communities about issues related to foster care and adoption and share ways communities can support children from hard places and those who care for them.

I also maintain Awaken Church‘s website and calendar and act as audio editor for its podcast, Awaken Online.

I am a life-long resident of the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

I have done extensive research on the rights of those experiencing homelessness. Before moving to Oregon, I organized a team of volunteer cooks one night each month to prepare meals at Community House on Broadway, a shelter for the unhoused in Longview, Washington.

In addition to an internship with the publication Christian News Northwest, completed Jan. 2022, I will start a grant writing internship with the Soup Kitchen at St. Barnabas summer 2022.
